Madrid 8/11/2026: what a property owner should check about the aid for repairing homes damaged by the Sierra Oeste fire

The Community of Madrid has approved a fund of up to 8 million euros to repair homes damaged by the major Sierra Oeste fire. What it covers, who it is for and what the owner should check before applying.

Madrid, 8 November 2026.

What the Community of Madrid has announced and from when

The Community of Madrid announced on 4 November 2026 a line of aid of up to 100,000 euros per home to repair the damage caused by the major Sierra Oeste fire. The overall allocation comes to 8 million euros and the aid will cover up to 80% of rehabilitation costs. The measure is aimed at people whose usual residence was damaged by the fire and seeks to restore the conditions needed to live in the property again. The official note itself states that this is direct aid on grounds of public, social and humanitarian interest, and that the agreement will take effect for its recipients on the terms published by the regional administration: Community of Madrid, 4/11/2026.

What this means for an affected owner

For an owner whose usual home is among those damaged, this aid can significantly reduce the cost of rehabilitation works to the structure, façades, enclosures, finishes and installations. It is not general aid for any home in Madrid, nor a grant open to any refurbishment: it is limited to properties affected by that fire and to those that meet the requirements. In addition, the official note indicates that the property must have the corresponding administrative authorisation in order to access the aid, so proving damage is not enough.

What should be checked before applying

Before starting the application, the owner should review four practical points. First, that the home is their usual residence and that the damage is linked to the Sierra Oeste fire. Second, that they retain clear evidence of the condition of the property and the extent of the damage. Third, that the planned works fit within the eligible categories, because the aid is geared towards rehabilitation and not just any freely chosen improvement. Fourth, that the required administrative authorisation exists, because without that backing the aid is not properly set up from the outset.

It is also advisable to check whether the building has affected common elements and how these will be coordinated with the residents' association, because the aid distinguishes the property and there may be work on structural or enclosure elements that requires joint management.

What it is advisable to have ready

If you are an owner and think you may be eligible, it is worth gathering proof of ownership, documentation for the home, reports or photos of the damage, a detailed repair quote and any permit or authorisation linked to the work. If you also need to assess how this may affect a future sale or your financing, you can review a preliminary estimate in our property valuation in Madrid or ask for help on our contact page.
